LINEAGES is a series of drawings with graphite and thread that evolved after the passing of my paternal

grandmother.  Working with her handwritten letters and three handknit throws she made for me over her

lifetime, I began to trace the loops of her handwriting and each loop of the blankets. Sometimes overlapping

or missing a stitch, I found my movement began to echo motions she would have made while knitting.  Both a comfort and strenuous, the performative work produced marks that speak to the intricacies, gaps and swells of relationships we have with one another.  The recorded sound elements served to document the meditative drawing process and signify how sounds have the ability to travel through time and space like the objects and memories they are attached to. Currently working to expand on this series of drawings and draw out pieces of text to memorialize my grandmother's modest and minimalist approach to life, I hope to draw out more memories while working with and from the few material objects that remain of her life.
