ENLIGHTENED SHADOWS

arose from a 2016 independent study in Florence, Italy.  It was here I became more aware of how early socio-economic networks still inform and control global capitalism today. Using antique lace, window panes, porcelain religious figurines, and and overhead projector, this installation strove to communicate how enmeshed all aspects of society had become during the early Renaissance. As Florence’s monumental institutions were primarily built on the back of merchants who found their wealth through the textile trade, I created a series of shadows that replicated  the shapes of the shadows cast by the city's major churches - data I acquired from google earth.
