UNMAKE THE UNWEARABLE with Jill Price

JULY 16 & JULY 23, Fridays: 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Orillia Museum of Art and History ONLINE

Did you inherit a fur coat, stole, shawl or hat that you will never wear, but feel like it is important or has value? Inspired by the exhibition Unfurled join me for a two-session workshop in which I will help you explore methods of unmaking and reimagining to help revive the materials and memories of the past. Starting with a brief introduction into other artists who have worked with fur as a material and the history of fur as a means of survival vs capital, participants will work together to brainstorm how we might continue to honour the animals and the humans to which these fur items once belonged. After discussion, those in attendance will be shown some tricks on how to measure, cut and sew old fur garment into new objects of affection and use. Week 2 participants will come back together to share their projects, struggles, successes and ideas on how to resolve or expand their concepts.

Participants must register for both sessions as they build on the theme each week.

$80 for members and $90 for non-members.

Each session is a 20 minute virtual workshop/show and tell with the work being done throughout the week during the participant’s spare time.

Participants must register for all four sessions as they build week to week on the theme.
